Miniature Australian Shepherds are a hardy and rustic breed — a little longer than tall. They have slightly rounded heads, medium-length muzzles and almond-shaped eyes. Mini Aussies are Calm, Playful, Trainable, Dependable, Protective, and Intelligent. When it comes to their love of play, Miniature American Shepherds never really outgrow the puppy stage. They are superb with children — the more active, the better. They have a gentle nature that prevents playtime from ever getting rough. They are also eager to work: Give them a job and they’ll finish it with loads of energy to spare. Miniature American Shepherds have excellent guarding instincts and a strong sense of loyalty to their families. Commonly crossed with miniature poodle to reduce shedding.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is a smaller version of the Australian Shepherd and first appeared in California. This breed has a soft and dense undercoat and a longer outer coat that is very resistant to extreme weather. The Mini Aussie is loyal, affectionate and enjoys playing with children. This puppy aims to please its owner which makes them easy to train.

The Mini Aussie is a protective breed that loves its owner. They are easygoing, attentive puppies that love to play. The Miniature Aussie will grow to be around 15 to 35 pounds and stand to be around 13 to 18 inches tall.

This beautiful dog breed can come in many colors including: blue or red merle, red or black tricolor, and with white and tan markings. Their coat may be slightly wavy or straight and the hair on the head, front forelegs, and outside of ears is shorter than the rest of the coat.

It can adapt well to apartment living but will need to be properly exercised and mentally stimulated. They can become nervous and possibly destructive if they are left alone too much without any physical exercise. This breed is very intelligent and will become easily bored if they do not have a job to do.

Socialization is key when this breed is a puppy to avoid it becoming suspicious of strangers. They have a natural herding instinct and it is not uncommon for them to nip at heels in an attempt to herd. With training and socializing, they can be easily trained to learn that herding humans is not acceptable. This breed of dog is not usually aggressive and will make a fine companion.

It will need regular maintenance as it is an average shedder, and will require to be brushed weekly with a firm bristle brush. This will prevent mats and maintain a healthy coat. The nails will need to be trimmed on a regular basis to prevent the nail from splintering.

This breed will need to be taken on long walks daily to exert energy. This energetic little pup will need lots of vigorous exercise to stay in shape. They also love to do real work with livestock if available.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd can be prone to hip and eye problems. If it is properly cared for it doesn’t have many health issues. This ambitious and courageous breed will typically have about a 12 to 13 year lifespan.
