The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a beloved toy breed with royal lineage, renowned for its utterly sweet expression and aristocratic charm. These small dogs, typically weighing 13-18 pounds and standing 12-13 inches tall, boast a silky, medium-length coat in four distinct colors: Blenheim, Tricolor, Black and Tan, and Ruby. Their most captivating features are their large, round, dark eyes and long, feathered ears, which contribute to their gentle, endearing look.
At their core, Cavaliers are the ultimate companion dogs. They are incredibly affectionate and devoted, often described as "velcro dogs" who thrive on being close to their humans and do not do well when left alone for extended periods. Their gentle, patient, and sociable nature makes them excellent companions for children, seniors, and other pets. While not high-energy, they are playful and intelligent, eager to please, and easily trained in basic obedience, adapting well to both apartment and larger home environments with daily walks and playtime.
Despite their elegant appearance, their medium-length coat requires consistent grooming: brushing 2-3 times a week, focusing on feathered areas like ears, legs, and tail, along with regular bathing. Their long, floppy ears are prone to infections and need regular cleaning, and daily tooth brushing is vital given their susceptibility to dental disease common in small breeds.
